Bennett Coleman (President)

Term Expires December 2018

Administration

I moved to Fair Haven over 28 years ago and all three of my children, not to mention my husband Peter (who grew up here) have benefited from the education provided by the Fair Haven School District.  It is an honor to serve as one of your elected officials on the Board of Education. I look forward to using my 20 plus years as an educator and drawing from my many years of community service and Board work to further the goals of our District.  Working together with my fellow Board  members, school administration and staff I embrace this opportunity to ensure that every child in our community is challenged to reach their full potential receiving the strong academic foundation they deserve.  Thank you for this opportunity to give back to our schools and community.

My husband and I fell in love with Fair Haven in 2002.  Our three children are all current students in the school system and we are very happy with the education that they are receiving.  As an active volunteer in our schools and community, I love connecting with friends and neighbors and using my professional skills in finance, consulting and accounting to enrich these organizations.  My family truly values everything about this wonderful community.  I am so excited to be part of the Board and will work to ensure that our children have the best possible educational experience.

My family and I moved to Fair Haven from New York City in 2007.  We moved to the suburbs because we wanted to provide our children with the best educational experiences in a public school setting, while having them grow up in a small town that valued community.  We have three children, one at Sickles and two at Knollwood.  My professional background as a Human Resources Generalist in Finance provides me with a unique skill set in employee relations, policy advisement and retention practices.  I’m hoping to be able to utilize these skills to provide a sustainable, positive learning environment where every child is engaged and challenged to their greatest potential, while focusing on academic achievement for children on every level.  I am very excited to serve our community as a Board of Education member.  I look forward to working closely with the administrative team and the community of Fair Haven.

Administration

My family and I moved to Fair Haven in 2005.  We fell in love with the small town, close-knit  community and excellent schools.  We have three children currently in the school system, two in Knollwood and our youngest in Sickles. My experience as a teacher and professional development specialist has enabled me to stay current in research, standards and trends in education. I am passionate about education and a believer in providing the best instruction  for our children: to meet the needs of every child; to encourage our students  to excel to the best of their abilities; to provide the most effective tools for our teachers; and, to ensure constant and clear communication to the community.  I feel so fortunate to be a member of the Board of Education and I am committed to working with the administration to provide the best education experience for all.

My husband and I moved to Fair Haven because of its small town feel and strong sense of community.  Having both been products of New Jersey's public schools, we also wanted to raise our children in a strong school district.  We have three boys; two attend Knollwood School and our youngest will enter Sickles School in September. Prior to serving on the Board, I was actively  involved in our PTA, serving on various committees and as a class parent at both Sickles School and Knollwood School.  Before taking time off to raise our children, I was a litigation attorney. I am thankful for the opportunity to serve on the Fair Haven Board of Education.  I appreciate the support and encouragement from our community and look forward to working with our Board and the administration to help our children achieve academic success.

I moved to Fair Haven with my husband in 1998.  Little did we know what we bought into when we moved here; we are so blessed to be a part of this great community.  We have 5 children; three have graduated from this district and are now in high school.  As a member of this community, we have a responsibility to participate in it and to contribute to it.  As such, I am grateful to have been elected to the BOE.  With my background as a parent, educator, and attorney, I can address issues from different points of view, which will serve to enhance decisions made by the Board as a whole.  I am thankful to the community for their confidence in my abilities to be an effective Board member. I look forward to working with the Board and the school administration and staff to continue to mold our district for the benefit of our children's education.

Now in my second year of board service, I am honored to be one of your Board of Education members. I am unwavering in my belief that every child who walks through our buildings' door deserves a great education and that we have amazing teachers, access to incredible teaching models and tools, and richness of resources in Fair Haven to deliver and improve on that promise. I run my own interior design business, practicing both residential and commercial design. I  volunteer with P.E.O., Tower Hill School, Park Church, and the PTA.  I love this town for many reasons, some of which are our great schools, river access, bike accessibility, and engaged neighbors. I have two sons at Sickles and a third in preschool. My husband, Matt, works as a Foundation Director for a local hospital system. Thank you for your trust and I am grateful for this opportunity to work hard and serve our kids and district.

My family and I moved to Fair Haven in the winter of 2012.  Earlier that year we spent a weekend in local hotel and came to realize the joy, friendship and community connection with this town.  Currently, I have three young boys in the school system and spent most of the years in Fair Haven coaching or providing volunteer work.  It was time to show my children the value of public service, the dedication to get involved and the importance of an education.  I look forward to serving with my fellow board members, supporting a productive agenda and instilling in our children core values that will transcend our school system.

My family and I moved to Fair Haven after several years in Hoboken and immediately fell in love with this community.  I have always believed in community service and decided to run for the Board of Education after attending several Board meetings in 2014.  As a practicing attorney representing several school boards in this state and lecturer on school issues at St. Peter’s University, my professional experience provides a unique and important point of view for the Board.  Indeed, I hope this perspective can aid our schools to become the best they can be.

I am grateful for the opportunity to serve my neighbors and this community I love.  I am humbled by the support and trust this community has placed in me and I look forward to working with the Board and Administration to reach our potential and to prepare our children for a lifetime of learning and success.
