PARCC Field Test
Knollwood School has been selected to administer the PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) Field Test this Spring 2014 to approximately 50 randomly selected 7th Graders in the subject of Math. The PARCC Field Test will also be given to over one million students across PARCC states. As stated in the PARCC Test Coordinator Manual, information from these field tests will be “used for scoring and scaling studies, other research studies, and for constructing operational test forms. The Field Test will produce no results for individuals, schools, or Local Education Agencies.” The PARCC test will be given in the subjects of language arts and mathematics to all 3rd – 8th grade students beginning in Spring 2015. The NJASK will continue to administer the science portion of the test to grades 4 and 8 in Spring 2015.
Please visit our Assessments Link on the left-hand side of our webpage for more information on the PARCC test.
In the spring of 2013 the Fair Haven Public School District was designated as a “high performing” district from the results of NJ Quality Single Accountability Continuum (QSAC). Under QSAC, public school districts are evaluated in five key component areas of school district effectiveness - instruction and program, fiscal management, governance, operations, and personnel. News from the Superintendent:
Greetings and Welcome to March! With only a few weeks to go until the official start of Spring, I’d like to thank our school community members for your understanding and support during this challenging winter season filled with unanticipated snow days, delayed openings and even an early dismissal. Kudos to our custodial and maintenance team for their work in having our campuses and facilities in safe and operational order so that we could have our schools in session during those snowy, icy and frigid school days.
School Calendar Update As a result of our fourth snow day used on February 13th, we have now extended our school year to June 20th. Graduation is still scheduled for June 18th, now a full-day of school. An updated calendar can be found on our site above.
Superintendent’s Community Chats Last month I began the first of many informal meetings with our school community. This month they will continue, with two sessions on Wednesday the 19th, one at 7 a.m. and the other at 7 p.m. Our chat will focus on the placement process for students entering grades one through five. Both sessions will be in the Knollwood APR and shall last no more than 45-minutes.
Kudos to our 6th through 8th Grade Performing Arts Troupe On Thursday, February 27th a packed house of our school community members was treated to an amazing performance of “Wonderland”. Thank you to co-directors Mrs. Hawkins and Illiano, Music Director Mr. Mottern, Tech Director Mrs. Levy, Set Director Mr. Zupko and last but not least, the cast and crew for their commitment to this year’s musical performance. Best wishes to our 8th graders on their continued involvement in the arts at the high school level. Thank you for your passion and efforts during your years at Knollwood.
Website We continue to update our site to offer our community lots of valuable information. Please visit it periodically.

Fair Haven Again Named as Model Program for World Language Instruction
The Fair Haven School District once again has been named by the State Department of Education as having a Model Program for World Language Instruction. The 2012-14 model program award was based upon a submitted written application, a full-day site visit to Sickles and Knollwood, and interviews with administrators, teachers, parents and students. As a model district, our schools will serve as a resource for other districts in the state and will enable educators to witness firsthand exemplary practices in world language instruction and assessment. Only a handful of districts statewide qualify for model program status so we are very proud of this achievement. Congratulations to our incredible world language staff and for Mrs. Spears who spearheaded this initiative.
